- What is an Artist’s Statement?
It is a brief statement (75 words or less) about your entry including source of the design, inspiration, and the relation to the theme if any.
- May we offer our entries for sale?
No, entries may no longer be offered for sale.
- Is the competition open to anyone?
Yes.
- What is the difference in members or non-members fees?
Members pay $30 per entry; non members pay $40 per entry.
- Who do I make the cheque out to?
The cheque should be made out to Focus on Fibre Art Association.
- Do you accept credit cards?
No.
- What is best: 8x10 pictures, or digital?
Digital is best.
- Where can I get an entry form? I don’t have access to a computer.

- What is the definition of ‘original’?
FFAA’s definition is: ‘Firsthand, not copied or derived from another source. Ideas that are generated from the artist’s imagination or executed from pictures taken with the artist’s camera are original.’
- What is the definition of ‘counted stitches’?
Counted stitches or counted embroidery is embroidery that is produced by stitching over a planned number of fabric elements. From ‘The Open Canvas’ by Carolyn Ambuter
- Why do we need a value on my piece?
Art pieces on display or in transit are not insured by the Focus on Fibre Art Assoc. Therefore, to protect these pieces against loss or damage a value enables the owner to claim this assigned value against home or car insurance based on an appraised or documented value for the art piece.
- What are the requirements in the Doll Category?
All entries must have cloth heads filled with stuffing only – no hard surfaces. Faces may be needle sculpted, embroidered, or painted on fabric.
Abstract – in this category the human form maybe merely suggested. The emphasis is on design & surface embellishment.
Representational – this category represents a human life figure, in any style – caricature, fantasy or realistic.
- Do we get a critic on each piece?
Yes.
- How do we know if we have been accepted into the show?
We notify accepted pieces by email or phone.
- Who can join the Association and can we attend meetings?
Anyone may join and may attend meetings.
